Our Home - The "Halfway House"
In the Victorian era our store was named the Halfway house, as it is halfway between Manchester and Bury. Halfway House offered a safe haven for travellers and outlaws alike but did you know the building was once home to a murderer? Yes! The infamous Victorian felon Charles Peace who was apprehended in our very own showroom over 150 years ago!
Born on May 14th 1832, this notorious burglar and murderer was a legend in his own time. Known for his charm and audacity, Peace’s exploits stretched far and wide but his ties to the North made him unforgettable. Though he met his fate on February 25th 1879 his name remains etched in history as one of Victorian England’s most notorious outlaws. Peace was executed for his crimes at 46 years old.
Another fascinating part of the Halfway House’s history is that art was once sold here in the early 1960’s and we’re continuing that tradition today in the form of beautiful Alloy wheels.
